 TURNING JAPANESE

I spent last week in London seeing shows. At the tate modern i saw Baldassari, in the interview with him he said something about going into the studio everyday and just sweeping up, eventually you get bored of sweeping and do something else. This is how creativity is born. I think he has a point. I also saw Murakami in the pop-life show.  After a bit of sweeping in the studio I made this sketch using an image of Murakami from his video with Kirsten Dunst.

- WET PAINT 5 -

the exploration into oil paint continues

I made this a while ago.

I posted the start of this painting a couple of weeks ago. Since then it has become significantly more camp. I'm just going to go with it and see what happens. Look out for glitter and rainbows!

This is the start of my most recent picture. I'm sure you can tell what it is. I thought it had a Sgt Pepper type feel to it and was generally a good excuse to work on my use of colour.

The recent 'wet paint' pictures have really been about having fun, and keeping me interested while i get to grips with painting in oils. It's had a lot to do with process and little to do with subject matter.
All in all it's time for something fresh. Mix up the old with the new.
Here's a sketch

- FRIDAY 13TH -

Quite a while ago now i met Anouk through working at Spike Island, we shared an interest in drawing and decided to set up a bristol DRAWING CLUB. Soon after doing this we decided we should put on a show using drawing as a starting point. We got Adam Higton on board too and this is what has resulted. A celebration of the diverse and continually relevant roles that drawing can play within contemporary art practice. Hosted by artist led gallery PLAN 9 the show runs for a week from.. FRIDAY 13TH

-WET PAINT 3-

The beginnings of my most recent painting - just over a meter wide, oil on canvas. Its a young Sir Dave with quite a blue gorilla. I somehow managed to get a lot of work recently helping to install spike islands new show, running a kids workshop*, artist assisting and some invigilating in the gallery. As a result I've only spent a day in my studio this month. Hopefully I'll be back in the studio properly soon and ill try to make more regular posts.

Also Jonny wanted to see how E.T. was going - so here you go Jonny; click on it to have a look.
