-optics don't make marks-

This is a slightly hefty blog to document my most recent show. It was a one night event in the project space at spike island to mark the end of my three month fellowship there. The idea was to create a show of non-existent paintings. The concept for the show and it's title come from the controversial 'Hockney-Falco thesis' if u want to find out more about it you could start by 'wikipedia-ing' it here

The show began with a projector and four images
of works on paper that i copied to acetate

I shone the images onto my cork surfaces
-cropped the light to the size of the board-
and stuck down strips of white tape where the characters would be-

Then used an exacto-knife to cut out the tape where it wasn't wanted

at this stage i should probably point out i left one day to install
and had a lot of help from Holly and Jason,
without which i wouldn't have got it done.

jason is working a placement at spike and was ace help

holly- is an old kernow friend i lived with at uni.
She thought she was just coming up for a nice visit and a break from work...
oh no- she was actually brought in to do a huge amount of work for me with a craft knife.

the install was finished about 20 minutes before it opened

tall man

lady with tiger

looks like a painting right?

The octopus and cowboy were hung next to each other,
but due to weird projector/camera optical friction they weren't too good at being photographed together.

jist?
more kernow crew- ben and some other falmouth homies
randomly appeared at the opening- a nice little treat it was too.

could just about get a photo to work of me with my projected paintings-
and when the lights came on-

the projections were gone and only the cutouts were left x
